St. Patrick’s Day at Dun Laoghaire

So not wanting to brave the hectic parades in Dublin City Centre and it being a lovely, if cold day, myself and Kate took ourselves to our old haunt, Dun Laoghaire for the morning. It was a lovely day there and the light over the harbour was beautiful and muted – not your ideal day for photographs as, on the surface, everything looked grey. But we persisted and I hope you like the shots.

Dun Laoghaire in the rain

Dun Laoghaire is one of my favourite areas to photograph – the piers and then the sweeping bay over to Sandycove. I haven’t often shot it in the rain but did yesterday.

As we had both Snow and Sunshine yesterday I thought it would be a shame to waste the opportunity. So I took my camera up to the Cruagh Wood in the Dublin Mountains – a lovely forest walk maintained by Coillte Teo.

Welcome to our new Cyclist with a Camera & Two Black Dogs Blog.

This has been a long time but as the good Lord said, all good things come to those who wait. The plan is to cover the main facets of my life…

Cyclist as I am an avid cyclist – not very good but very committed – my current steed!

My preference is for the longer distance races – I’ve completed 4 out of 5 of the of the An Post Cycle series choosing to do the 160km races each time. Never competitive but the sense of achievement on completion is only mighty.

Camera as I am a photographer by trade. I love working with people – weddings, portraits etc such as

most of all but also love to spot the odd visually appealing shot such as

Two Black Dogs. This one is possibly a bit schizophrenic –

1) We have just taken delivery of Two Dogs – as in

They are brothers, about 4 months old crosses between German Shepherd and Collie and are tearing our house apart.

2) I regularly suffer from visits from The Black Dog – Depression, particularly in the winter months. With business quietening and the dark days I end up withdrawing into my self and avoiding people interaction. Thankfully I have a great wife who takes care of me all the time but particularly in my dark days.

So the plan from here on is to update this Blog regularly with articles on each of the topics – some topics will no doubt be updated more often than others, e.g. more on The Black Dog during winter and less during summer and more on Cycling always – I like cycling, do I!
